Queency, an emerging singer-songwriter from the Toronto area, recently discovered Mr Subs franchise. The 19-year-old had never heard of Mr Sub before, but decided to give the restaurant a try after her mother recommended it. After she visited, she couldn’t stop thinking about it – specifically how great the experience was and how much she would want to bring her fans there if they were ever in town.
How I got the feature
It was an amazing opportunity to have this type of feature. One day I got a call from my manager from Mr. Sub and they wanted me to be on the radio show, so I accepted the offer. They mixed and mastered the song by Mr Pen and when it came out we all were really excited about how it sounded!
Preparing for the phone call
Hello, Mr. Pen? I say into the receiver. It's queency, of Mr. Sub featuring Queency. How can I help you, queency? he says back to me. Oh, uhm, I stutter and fidget with my hands on the table in front of me at the recording studio where we're meeting for our call.
The actual phone call
Hey, hi. What's up?
It sounds like him on the other end of the line.
My brain immediately starts to race with thoughts.
I've only ever seen his face in photos and videos, so I had no idea what he might sound like in person.
Now here I am talking to him on the phone.
Uh, hello? Excuse me? Is there anyone there? he asks impatiently into my ear, snapping me out of my reverie.
The aftermath and how it affected my life
I can't believe that this is happening. I'm getting calls left and right and just a couple days ago, I had a meeting with Mr Sub! This is all so amazing! I can't thank them enough for having faith in me and letting me be their spokesperson. You know, the thing that amazes me the most about this is my future.
Turning an embarrassing situation into an advantage
Mr. Pen, a talented DJ, was visiting Mr. Sub for the first time when an unfortunate accident happened. The day of the recording, he lost his wallet and phone down the elevator shaft with only his clothing on his back. What could have been an embarrassing situation turned into one of opportunity as Mr. Pen has now turned this negative experience into a positive situation by rapping on the topic that is very important to him: identity theft. The lessons I learnt from this experience
Lesson 1 - What are your favorite way to drink your latte? My favorite way to drink my latte is as a Vanilla Latte. It is usually frothy and has a vanilla flavor that makes it taste delicious! Lesson 2 - How often do you visit Mr Sub? I love visiting Mr Sub every now and then, because sometimes they offer different flavours of coffee like peppermint or gingerbread spice. If I happen to be craving something sweet, then I will order one of their doughnuts!
