Things to know before going
1. If you want to go, be sure to purchase your tickets online in advance. 2. The admission is free per person for the student discount and for the general public. 3. You must be at least 15 years old to enter Music Ko Tafa, or 18 if you are accompanying a younger person who is under 18 years old. 4. Music Ko Tafa is open from 10:00 am-11:00 pm every day of the week. 5. In addition to live music performances, Music Ko Tafa offers traditional dance lessons as well as workshops on various topics that relate to African culture. 6. My favorite event there was a workshop where we learned how to create our own instruments!
The Story Behind the Show
Music title Ku Tafa is a radio program that airs every Saturday from 10 pm to midnight on NHK FM. Sha zamani with Music Ku Tafa is the show's presenter and DJ for the duration of this time slot.
The first segment on each episode discusses African music in Japan, including international artist-to-the-people interviews, playing African music from many different cultures, and introducing upcoming artists from all over Africa. The second segment showcases popular African music videos that are trending on social media for 60 minutes. The third segment covers the evolution of African dance movements that have appeared in popular culture worldwide in recent years.

Tips for Kids
When you think of popular Sudanese music, it’s likely the first type of music to come to mind is what's known as Makahang. The term Makahang derives from a word that in English means doers. And who does more than average Sudanese? Fishermen! But, this broad category also includes other styles such as Mi'tarija, Rabaaba'i, Mawaweer and Gaseet. Music title Ku Tafa features all these different types of music and so much more.
The name Music title Ku Tafa means I’ll be there for you in the Hausa language of Borno State – the language which was most commonly spoken by Nigeria until about the seventh century CE.
